Lidl sits in the first quadrant of the board, between GO and Jail. Properties in this region are cheap to acquire and cheap to build on, but they generate lower rent than mid-board lots. The strategic case for owning Lidl is locking down the entire Supermarchés group early — when fully built, the cumulative rent from low-cost properties can quietly drain opponents who pass through repeatedly.
